Making a Solar Eclipse Pinhole Projector
Making a solar eclipse pinhole projector is one of the safest ways to view a solar eclipse, especially with young children. Here is an example from NASA for a pinhole projector.
A simpler pinhole projector can be created with a square of poster paper with a circular hole punched in it and another piece of poster paper held below. Adjust the pieces until the image is sharp. This is similar to how images of the eclipse show up in the shadows of leaves on the ground.
In 2017, we drove up to Tennessee to see the total solar eclipse. My husband quickly threw one together so that our daughter could see the eclipse when it was first starting. We also had eclipse glasses we could view the sun directly. Also, the leaves showed the eclipse when it was covering over half of the sun.
